Due to the limited available space, the airport has dedicated close proximity parallel runways ; South runway for take-offs and North runway for landings (unlike most airports where the runway adjacent to airport terminals is used for departures). For access to the take off runway, taxi routes cross the active landing runway.

Runway direction was determined by local topography, not prevailing wind direction.

Due to the 309,50m separation of the two runways they are not independent and require complex taxi routes for access to RWY 04R/22L and in particular for access to 04R when taxiway “W”, marked in green, is dedicated to 04R departures to allow for landing on 04L.

If, for any reason, a crew request an arrival on 04R, it is necessary that taxiway "W" be free of all traffic and this may require a long delay.

Due to the depth of the sea bed at the two runway thresholds there are no approach lights.

Only RWY 22R is equipped with flashing sequential lights along 300m.
